- How is UAE gratuity calculated?
- For a qualifying employee, 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years of service and 30 days for each year after that, with part years counted proportionally once the first full year is complete. The total is capped at two years' wage. Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Article 51.
- Is gratuity calculated on basic salary or the full package?
- Basic salary. This is the most expensive misunderstanding in UAE settlements, because annual leave and sick leave are paid at the full wage — same employee, same month, two different bases.
- Do I get gratuity if I leave before a year?
- No. Below one year of continuous service the entitlement does not exist at all — it is not a smaller, pro-rated amount. This calculator says so rather than showing a reduced figure.
- Does unpaid leave count towards service?
- No. Periods of unpaid leave are excluded from the service used for gratuity, so subtract them before entering your dates.
