UAE sick leave calculator

Which days of an absence fall at full pay, which at half, and which are unpaid — counted against what has already been taken this entitlement year, which is the part most calculations get wrong.

Who and where

Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Article 31 — 90 days a year across three bands.

The absence
Calendar days in this absence

Counted inclusively, both dates included. Sick leave runs in calendar days.

The wage
Total monthly wage used

Sick leave is paid on the full wage — basic plus fixed allowances — while gratuity is basic only.

Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere but the calculation.

Enter the absence dates and the wage and the answer appears here — how many days fall at full pay, half pay and unpaid, what each band is worth, how much of the year's entitlement is left, and a sentence explaining how the split was reached.

Questions this raises

How much sick leave are UAE employees entitled to?
Up to 90 days per year, continuous or intermittent: the first 15 at full wage, the next 30 at half wage, and the remaining 45 unpaid. That is the whole entitlement for the year — not 90 days at each tier, and not 90 days per illness. Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Article 31.
Why does it ask how many days I have already taken?
Because the bands run across the entitlement year, not across one absence. Somebody who took nine days in March and eleven more in September has six days left at full pay and five at half — inside a single absence. A calculator that assumes zero pays the whole absence at full rate and is wrong by the difference.
Is sick leave paid on basic salary or the full wage?
The full wage — basic plus allowances. Gratuity is the opposite, basic only, which is why this form asks for the two figures separately rather than for one salary.
Does sick pay apply during probation?
No. There are also circumstances where sick pay is not due, notably where the illness resulted from the employee's own misconduct. This calculator does not check either — it works out the bands on the assumption the absence qualifies.

The bands need a year of history, not a month

This asks you for the days already taken because it has no way to know them. A payroll system should not have to ask — ours reads the leave ledger and applies the band per day, so the payslip and the ledger cannot disagree. Where sick pay goes wrong covers the boundary cases in full.
